Tall Buildings

The focus of the Congress will be on three themes:

  1. Sustainable Design


  • Global Scale: The influence on urbanity at the governmental / planning level:
  • Urban Scale: The role of Tall Buildings in the creation of sustainable cities and the impact of tall buildings on the Urban environment.
  • Building Scale: Sustainable tall building design approaches, energy consumption, the need for post-occupancy monitoring:
  • Technological Scale: Individual technologies concerned with energy use reduction (in both material embodied energy and building operation) and energy generation (wind, solar etc).

  1. Mega-projects


  •    The World’s Tallest Building(s)
  •    The role of  concentrated Mega-projects in future sustainable cities:
  •    The role of  ‘new’ cities, in the desert, delta, rain forest
  •    Approaches to urban infrastructure

  1. Tall, Articulated Towers


  • The new generation of skyscraper form: Tall and Articulated
  • The ‘iconic’ versus ‘site specific’ design approaches.
  • Technological challenges.

  • All speakers are required to register for the Congress before their paper is accepted and included in the printed congress proceeding.
